Day of the Dead Assignment
This is dedicated to my great-grandfather whom I didn’t have the privilege to meet. I know that he was a good man. Everybody makes mistakes and I am sure God, forgave him through what he did. My story is about my great-grandpa. His name was Gregorio Rodas. He was born in Shella , Guatemala . He was married to a wonderful woman Crecensia de Rodas. They had two daughters Isaura Rodas and Irsilia Rodas. He was a great farmer he planted coffee, corn, and vegetables and much more. They use to have horses, chickens, pigs and other farm animals. They seemed like such a normal family they worked hard and had hopes and dreams for their families. My grandma Isaura wanted to be a teacher. My auntie Irsillia wanted to be a nurse. They went to school and studied really hard every night and had a lot of support at home. They were like a birds living in a warm nest. It seemed as if nobody or anything can ever separate the wonderful family. My great-grandpa use to only drink on the weekends like all of his friends. Then he started drinking twice a week, then three times a week, pretty soon he started drinking alcohol everyday. After, he got addicted to drinking alcohol. Nobody really knows why he started drinking so much and everyday. I think it was peer pressure; believe it or not grown ups get pressured too. My great grandma kept telling him to stop drinking so much alcohol because it was a bad example for their daughters. He then became a rebel and kept drinking. Since he always drank so much alcohol he got really over weight and was unable to work. He was really big and did not have the energy he once had to work. My great grandma did all the work she picked all the eggs from the hens, got the milk for the cows, gave food to the animals, and all the work. She was a hard worker and worked even more than she had to work. She soon became tired of doing all the work around and to tell her once working husband “Stop drinking and go to work, or else we are going to have a divorce.” My great grandpa responded o her “Don’t worry one of these days I am going to leave you alone.” After my great grandma gave what he said a second thought she forgot all about it when my great grandpa said he was going to work, to start changing, and making a difference. Everybody was really happy because everybody thought he was really going to change. One day he said he was going to work, they gave him his lunch and he went of to work in the fields. Since he was under depression because of the alcohol he got his belt and hanged himself from a coffee tree and died.
